The story behind the name
slate and sand
Slate & Sand came from a year of wiping things clean and rebuilding my life with more intention.
I wanted a name that reflected that shift. Slate felt right because it is strong, simple, and grounded. It reminds me of starting fresh without losing who you are.
Sand brings in the warmth and the texture. It is everyday life, the mess, the movement, the grit, and the beauty in things not being perfect. It balances the structure of slate with something softer and more human.
The hourglass in the logo is there for a reason. Time goes fast. Life changes quickly. Your home should work for the season you are in right now. It should feel good, look good, and still be practical and affordable. The spaces we live in influence everything, and we deserve to enjoy them.
Slate & Sand is my way of creating homes that feel lived in, thoughtful, and honest.

I’m Chenay, the owner and designer behind Slate & Sand Interior Design.
I’m a mom to two boys, and like most people, my life has had many seasons – some loud, some quiet, some full of rebuilding. Somewhere in the middle of it all, I realized just how much our homes shape the way we feel and move through our days.
Design has always been part of who I am. I’m drawn to clean lines, warm textures, and spaces that feel pulled together without feeling staged. I don’t believe good design has to be dramatic or expensive; it just has to make sense for your life right now.
That belief is the foundation of Slate & Sand.
